There's no way to know. One can observe that leftists might refrain from the kind of tea-cup reading the popular media specializes in. We are engaged in a rather long-range struggle, not deciding whether to make a one-week bet on the Dow's response to war news.
On the long range, we can be reasonably certain that he U.S. can't hold on in Asia, and I think that should enter into our strategic thinking. (E.g., as I indicated in an earlier post, looked at from a decent temporal perspective, we can see that Afghanistan is already a quagmire.) But we're no better than any hack journalist in predicting what is going to happen in Iraq in the next three weeks.
