Not always -- just on this issue. Well actually, they are almost always a useful corrective to US broadcasting when something happens in the middle east, since it usually Israel.
It's as much a function of how badly our broadcasting sucks at the moment as of RFI's inherent virtues.

Well, exactly. And when there isn't a big news story on, they're pretty provincial and jejune. But they're shining now.
