German Electronics Giant Launches Medical Equipment Factory in Shanghai
Siemens Medical Solutions, a subsidiary of the Germany-based Siemens, has established a CT (computerized X-ray tomography) machine factory in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, an economic locomotive in east China.
The new production facility, Siemens (Shanghai) Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., is Siemen's first CT production and R&D base outside Germany.
Covering a total area of more than 8,000 square meters, the newfactory is designed to produce 500 CT machines a year using the same standards as those of Siemens' German operations. The products will be sold both inside and outside China.
Further investment will be made in the CT machine factory to enhance its R&D and production capacity, which will also produce X-ray equipment and medical equipment parts in the future.
China now has high-quality human resources, outstanding high-tech partners, a competitive cost advantage and a growing domesticmarket for medical equipment. All of these factors encourage Siemens to invest more in the country, according to Goetz Steinhardt, global CFO of Siemens Medical Solutions.
The company's business in the Asia-Pacific region increased by 64 percent over the past three years, with China as the decisive factor behind the growth, Goetz Steinhardt said.
A leading medical equipment supplier in the world, Siemens Medical Solutions has launched three production facilities on the Chinese mainland.
To date, Siemens' long-term investment in China stands at more than 600 million Euros.
The German electric and electronics mogul has set up 41 companies and 26 representative offices and employed over 12,000 people in China. Last year, its sales in China reached 3.6 billionEuros.
