By distorted do you mean selective?

I generally find the rightwing view of human rights to be one of impatience -- well, for all but property rights. Though torture and depredations of civil liberties may be cited as proof of the Evil of official enemies, they are not taken as wrong in and of themselves.

As a certain former leftist once said, during the Cold War the wingnuts often betrayed a penis envy over the authoritarian methods of some official enemies. Sure, human rights were part of the sales pitch for liberal democracy, but they could also be taken as symptoms of its effete decadence.
