This may explain why the "automatic dissolution of capitalism" keep creeping back into left discourse, in one form or another. It's a very useful fantasy. (For good old Friedrich's take on this, see below.)

Jon Johanning // jjohanning at igc.org __________________________________ After the Buddha died, people still kept pointing to his shadow in a cave for centuries -- an enormous, dreadful shadow. God is dead: but the way people are, there may be, for millennia, caves in which his shadow is still pointed to. -- And we -- we must still overcome his shadow! —Friedrich Nietzsche

CB: Ah yes, "good" old Freidrich. He really did a lot for humanity , didn't he ?

But wait, there is a new God . It is capitalism. It is not dead or dying, and is a candidate for immortality, millenia at least. All bow down to the new God ! Or make your peace with it, as Jon is so happy to do. Unfortunately , capitalism isn't capable of making peace with most of the people on earth. It's sort of like making peace with HIV.

Lets all celebrate Nietzschean misanthropy. Raise your kids on Nietzsche. How many parents on the list want to do that ? Raise your hands. Humans are bunch of assholes. Great. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <../attachments/20031102/c7ef8c08/attachment.htm>
