Doug's answer may sound like an exaggeration but it isn't.

I would add the following modifications...

Conservative American worldview:

The world is dangerous and the US is holding the forces of darkness at bay. Other nations and peoples lack the will to do this difficult work. Also, God clearly favors this country above others because of its special mission. People who've done well in business have proven their superiority above others and are the natural leadership class. Non-American cultures (both external and in urban concentrations within the US) should be viewed suspiciously. Internal actions towards disciplining the populace (welfare reform, for example) and foreign policy moves that un-patriots describe as 'crimes' are the necessary price of freedom.

Liberal American worldview:

Other cultures should be respected and celebrated. Nevertheless, it's undeniable that the pinnacle of liberty, technology and dynamism has been achieved in the US. The ideal endpoint for human civilization would be a vast world of suburban homes and stylish urban townhouses and condos, each within an easy 50 minute drive of multiculturally themed, upscale shopping centers. Of course, everyone should retain their cultural distintiveness, but they should do so in a way that closely mimics American styles of living. Foreign policy 'crimes' are mistakes which represent deviations from American ideals and innocence.

The common thread is the belief in American superiority.
