Maybe that is what they "hear" from the U.S. media... when they only have one option: "listen."
I have found that when you ask people to act as "protectors of rights" -- like in a game of "Supreme Court" -- they end up acting like "socialists"... lots of personal rights to existence without government interference, and lots of rights to exist regardless what economic rationale dictates....
And without having to make the hand-wringing commitment to some definition of "socialism" that wastes the time of so so many leftists.
