This article is completely sutpid. First, get the facts straight. Kerry, not Dean, is the one with a family fortune to use. Dean has raised $30 million from small contributors, with the net-connected anti-war left his key constituency. There's no question that Dean is too conservative for people on this board, but the facts are that he backs national health insurance and signed a landmark bill for gay civil unions.
If that's not good enough for you, fine. Show me a candidate with a better RECORD on health care and gay rights.
If running for the presidency was a left-wing essay contest, then we would all vote for Kucinich. It isn't. Presumably Kucinich has heard of the Internet. Where was his Internet campaign? Where, indeed, is the Kucinich organization at all? Does Kucinich believe that there is some invisible, natural majority for his ideas that will simply appear like genies when he says his magic words?
Kucinich is running a vanity campaign, pure and simple.
I voted for Nader in 2000 and I'd do it again, knowing all that I know. I would not vote for Gore and yet I support Dean. Why? It's not because he wins the Kucinich essay contest, obviously. It's because of the organization he has put together - an organization that is making every major DLC democrat in Washington, DC, frightened and depressed. Dean is the candidate that Terry McAuliffe attacked early in the campaign, not Kucinich. Why? Because Dean was a threat and Kucinich is a joke.
If you can't see the significance of the Terry McAuliffe attack, the Evan Bayh attack, the Clintons throwing Clark in as a spoiler and the continiung wrestling match at the AFL-CIO despite Dean's being endorsed by AFSCME and Sweeney's old union, what can I tell you? For people to write that the Dean campaign is "business as usual" is to be completely blind to the threat that the Dean organization poses to the Democratic Party Weaselocracy.
I don't subscribe to the "anybody but Bush" idea. I will not vote for another DLC weasel. I would rather have honest fascists in power.
peace,
