Doug asked:

Wow, the official line is more like 2,000 wounded. What accounts for the discrepancy?

==========

I've wondered about this too.

Given the administration's troubled history with the facts on just about any topic (I can almost imagine Karl Rove saying it's 3 PM when it's actually 4 just to keep in counter-factual fighting trim) the easy answer is that the Busheviks, via Centcom, are not telling the full story.

Perhaps this excerpt from the Veterans for Common Sense article sheds some light:

...

In addition to the nearly 1,900 who have gone on to Walter Reed, another 1,500 have been sent to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., which treats the injured from the Navy and Marines. Several thousand less seriously wounded soldiers have been sent directly to some of the military's dozens of smaller hospitals and clinics around the country.

...

Maybe the Pentagon is counting only those wounded who've arrived at one facility and who've lost limbs or are seriously burned or otherwise mangled by weaponry. Those who can still walk and appear un-harmed are, perhaps, being left out of the stats.

The motivation for such fudging is obvious.
