China, Japan seal up WW-II chemical weapons
Press Trust of India Beijing, November 8
China and Japan on Saturday began an operation to seal up Japanese chemical weapons abandoned after World War II in Qiqihar city in China's northernmost Heilongjiang province.
The operation is expected to take more than 20 days, Xinhua news agency reported.
Some abandoned chemical weapons were found earlier this year in the city and other places in northeast China, posing a constant danger for those living and working near them.
One person died and 42 were injured after barrels of abandoned Japanese mustard gas were dug up and began leaking at a construction site in Qiqihar in early August.
