I would be quite happy not to abandon the goal of socialism, consciously or unconsciously, if I knew specifically what it meant at this point.

The definition the Encyclopedia Britannica gives it, "system of social organization in which property and the distribution of income are subject to social control rather than individual determination or market forces," leaves open the question, "What kind of 'social control,' and how is it to be exercised?" Once we get into the details of such questions, we always seem to find the devil lurking.

And without an army arrayed to fight for socialism (whatever happened to that working class, anyway?), planning either strategy or tactics is only a textbook exercise.

Meanwhile, while we have our noses buried in our textbooks, the executive committee of the ruling class, George W. Bush, CEO, goes marching on. What to do about them?
