Neiwert wrote one of the better books on the militia movement. "In God's Country: The Patriot Movement and the Pacific Northwest." He grew up in Idaho or Montana in hardscrabble working class/family farmer community and though he worked/works(?) for MSNBC has none of the "liberal elitist" condescension towards the w/c of PMC leftists.
