If Arnie proposed a tax hike, I think it would be smart
for the Dems to support it, providing the distribution
of the burden wasn't too noxious.  It would fund
state programs, and it would split Arnie's base
wide open, reducing him to a one-term wonder.

Arnie's got a budget to balance. He's either going to have to raise 
taxes, which will drive the Reps crazy (and for which it would be 
almost impossible to get a 2/3 vote in the legislature, no?) or cut 
services so deeply that people might get upset. He's got his hands 
full.
