As an anarchist librarian, I have to say that I really love these right wing attacks on my profession. Does Rich Lowry have a PayPal account that I can use to send him meny? As I was saying the other day on the ALA Intellectual Freedom list: I'm really thankful for what John Ashcroft has done for the library profession. Ashcroft, and the nutcases on the right who attack ALA and libraries, have managed to do something in a few years that radical librarians have been trying to do for decades. Politicize the profession. Thanks to Ashcroft, more and more apolitical librarians are discovering the radical politics that underlie librarianship. You ever wonder why patron borrowing records are purged from the computer databases when patrons return books? Because the library profession already fought a battle with the FBI decades ago.

Lowry is also helping improve the image of librarians.

Thanks!

"...ironically, perhaps, the best organised dissenters in the world today are anarchists, who are busily undermining capitalism while the rest of the left is still trying to form committees."
