"... in 1974, Frank Sinatra was a prime press target. Of enduring interest were his multiple marriages, his numerous affairs and his alleged links with the Mafia. The Australian public may have wanted 'Ol Blue Eyes, but the media were after Cranky Franky, and that's who they got. When the papers came out soon after his arrival, headlining the least savoury aspects of his life and times, the Sinatra temper ignited, and he let fly with a tirade at the behaviour of the bums, parasites and buck-and-a-half hookers of the Australian press.
The outraged union movement organised a boycott. For the next three days, Sinatra, his future wife, Barbara Marx, and their entourage were holed up in Sydney's Boulevard Hotel with supply lines cut, apart from a cache of Jack Daniels and a few packets of pasta. Sinatra was under siege."

[The boycott was led by Bob Hawke, later a disappointing labor PM.]
