People _are_ objects. They occupy space, they have mass, they have definable shapes and boundaries. The fact that one can interact with other humans to a highly complex degree does not make them _not_ objects.

True, in the narrowest of ways, but inadequate for a comprehensive understanding of living creatures.

To dip from the well of fantasy for a moment, I think it would be understandable for the gods or a vast and cool artificial intelligence - that is, a thinking entity, completely inhuman but capable of seeing humanity whole in a purely instrumental fashion - to see people as objects.

For human beings to do so however, even via the reductio of scientific investigation, leads to innumerable woes.
