sinatra's impact on main stream and even peripheral popular music of the 40s through the sixties was enormous, as was his almost incredible artistry ,before succumbing to egoistic old age...this has been pointed out by others here...but he also served as an early role model for those who found media whores to be lower than worms, and in this quoted case:

"...When the papers came out soon after his arrival, headlining the least savory aspects of his life and times, the Sinatra temper ignited, and he let fly with a tirade at the behavior of the bums, parasites and buck-and-a-half hookers of the Australian press..."

he was right, and it was more than australia...legend has it that he once punched out a scummy new york gossip monger named lee mortimer, a forerunner of the dreadful "buck and a half hookers" that now make a living by peeping and reporting (?) for unfortunate folks who don't have a life...

until he became a caricature if himself in his most senior years, he was a uniquely gifted talent, and almost as great a personality and character...
