So, despite the fact that Arnold Beverly has confessed to the killing of Officer Faulkner, Moore finds that saying Mumia probably did it is a good way to win over conservatives when having a debate with them. (The excerpt came from a section of the book on how to deal with a conservative brother-in-law) This is typical of white liberals with their weak-ass non-positions on issues of importance.

I believe that liberals in general, or to be more precise, those that stay within the strictures of acceptable discourse (i.e. safe for Sunday chat shows, NPR, Time Magazine and so forth) are prone to adopt "non-positions."
This is certainly not true of Amy Goodman, whose positions are clearly discernable and well outside of the pool of network ready opinions. It is becoming somewhat less true apparently as a description for Michael Moore, though he is obviously, as you say, a "limousine liberal."
An examination of Black 'leadership' reveals that this over-cooked noodle state of being is not limited to people who happen to be White but is a characteristic of those who wish to stay within 'respectable' society.
Chomsky has written detailed analyses of this phenomena as it's manifested amongst intellectuals.
