God yes do they ever suck.

Last week they ran a series on 'anti-Americanism in Europe'. There was nearly zero brainwave activity evident.

The pattern of each piece, divided by country (UK, Germany, France, Italy, that's all, no more Europe apparently) was as follows:

1.) After WW2, everybody loved America and American pop culture (cue period song as background and soundbite from old lady/man about the yanks who saved them from the Nazis.)

2.) Later, trade unionists, communists and cultural chauvanists of various types began bad mouthing America (cue to soundbite from interview with fawning Euro-intellectual about why his home country is 'jealous' of American power and glamour - and glamorous power).

3.) September the 11th 2001, brought the old friends together again for a moment of Western civ unity ('we are all Americans...' Le Monde declared) but the Bush Administration's "bold" action against terrorisim has unnerved the more cautious Europeans who lack such decisiveness.

Rinse and repeat with different country and big name NPR Euro-bureau reporter.

NPR is less dulling than classic rock stations, scream-o-tron talk radio, Howard Stern's proto-fascist good time carnivale and much of the rest of corporate radio but that's not saying very much.
