[lbo-talk] Dean: transformative?

Woops- missed that Wojtek had posted the Dean program. You also look at history and Dean did have the 100% labor rating as state legislator and was recognized by the AFL-CIO for his support of nurses union organizing in his state. Past performance is no promise of future performance, but it's a good hint, as is specificity of promises now.

And frankly, what does it matter if the promises are made the month before the election? Is the rule that promises made to the base must be timed so as to most guarantee doubts among swing voters who haven't yet made up their minds? If a candidate is going to betray you, they'll betray you. And the recourse is to have the power to choose wisely early on and then have the power to unelect them if they cross you.

Until these pronouncements turn into specific promises of action made in public within one month of the general election, I give them no value. Until then, they are mere political marketing, IMHO.
