why did amnon dankner sack yehuda nuriel?

Two weeks ago, following heated public discussion in israel in response to the refusenik air force pilots ("We refuse to take part in air force attacks on centers of civilian population," they wrote), columnist Yehuda Nuriel wrote a short piece titled "A Brave and Moving Response to the Refusenik Pilots." the item was published as part of his weekly satirical column in daily tabloid Ma'ariv's chain of local magazines, accredited to A. Schicklgruber.

A. Schicklgruber was Adolf Hitler's original name. Ma'ariv's editors were ignorant of this fact, and also failed to notice that the entire article -- apparently a nationalist anti-refusenik text -- is composed of quotes from Mein Kampf, as well as other writings and speeches by Hitler.

Learning of the "trick" nested in this article, Ma'ariv's editor-in-chief, Amnon Dankner, sacked Nuriel, and gave the following explanation: "This is an extremely repulsive satire, which means that anyone who opposes Sarbanut (Conscientious Objection) is Hitler, quasi-Hitler, or about to become Hitler. In my view, as an editor of a Jewish newspaper in Israel, it is a horrible act which can not be forgiven, and can not be protected by the right for a free speech."

i have recompiled the text in english, using existing translations of hitler. you can read it at http://oznik.com/words/031017.html

the hebrew text (excised from ma'ariv's web site) was republished on kedma mizrahi portal: http://www.kedma.co.il
