[lbo-talk] employment

Hell, technology *is* what enables my personal productivity to drop. If I didn't have lbo-talk and my weblog and IM, I'd be doing work. And I'm neither the only one or the worst offender: a while back the WSJ had an article on all the ways technology enables people to really and truly slack off--as in not even showing up at work for days and days. Route calls to your cell phone, schedule email to go out at late hours in the evening (so it looks like your burning the midnight oil), use IM instead of face to face contact, broadcast voicemail messages--it was truly beautiful. Innarresting (cue Wm Burroughs snarl) thing was, the article also mentioned how some fake out their secretaries and staff--indicating that a lot of these uber-slackers are management.

Value added indeed!
