Who, Wormtongue? The most characteristic line in the Slate piece:

> Reflect upon it: Civil society is assaulted in the most criminal way by the
> most pitilessly reactionary force in the modern world.

There you have Wormtonguism in a nutshell: all the horrors of neoliberalism are displaced onto a tiny band of theocrats, who were armed and trained by the CIA for a dirty war in Afghanistan and then turned on their masters. 4 billion people screwed by neocolonialism? The Third World being strangled by 2 trillion euros of hard currency debt? Neocons plundering the welfare state and raping the US educational system? It's all Osama's fault! And Hitchens' demented conclusion:

> So, the pitiful peaceniks are the chief moral losers, whichever way you slice
> it.

The cold and dank of Orthanc must be getting to him.
