The country is still in a state of shock. The Swedish police gained notoriety for their incompetence in the Palme investigation and now they appear to be floundering again. As of yet there are no signs of the perpetrator, so there is no way to tell if it was politically motivated or simply an act of lunacy. The euro referendum on Sunday will be held as planned, and I'm sure this will tilt some towards a "yes" vote out of sympathy (Anna Lindh was a strong euro supporter). For those of us on left who are campaigning for a "no" (out of concern for democracy, work, welfare, etc), this is just about the worst thing that could have happened.
I was not a fan of Anna Lindh as a politican. As a foreign minister she represented the Swedish government's inability to take a clear stand against the war in Iraq, for one thing. Nevertheless I am extremely sad and shocked about this.
