if you can judge a book by its movie, this book is lefty by today's standards. It presents a sort of New Deal liberal message, at once saying that even though FDR's programs didn't always work, it showed people that someone cared about their problems. The neo-liberal message, on the other hand, is that such care is a snare and a delusion, encouraging welfare dependency and the like.
