This, btw, =is why the Chomsky technique of overwhelming people with arguments and information does not work, but only irritates people. ********************

Chomsky thinks that humans are hard-wired for language. The connection between being able to use language and being able to use logic is a necessary one, IMO. That some of us can retain and use logical arguments, even Chomsky's, while others embrace a kind of "militant ignorance" when faced with them, may be more a function of our psychological character structure--tending toward reverence for imposed authority or a critical eye toward the authoritative source. In other words, we may be nutured to shun our natures in the course of maturing within class society. This makes sense to me in terms of all the cognitive dissonance in the world. And then, of course, there's always reification to deal with, especially within the upside-down world of commodity production and proliferation.
