If an abolitionist proposal were put to a referendum, I'd probably vote for it, but if it lost because people thought it important to execute these sorts of gangsters, I wouldn't be heartbroken. I think that they have forfeited their right to live and their claim on any help or succor from others. I don't think their lives are worth anything. But I'm not cruel, so I wouldn't want to see them starve or be left to die of exposure or disease. I think that life imprisonment is appallingly dreadful, so, since I think that something very bad should happen to people who commit such awful crimes, that might be bad enough. However, if society were to determine that it's not, that we have to kill them, that would be OK too.
