<DIV>When I lived in Indy (my birthplace), I used to write letters under the
name David Standifer, who attacked the Star from the right. Standifer was crazy
-- he thought there was a pro-commie angle to a photo collage the Star ran about
children in Cuba, where one of the pix showed a Cuban girl smiling and eating
ice cream. "As any freedom-loving American knows," wrote Standifer, "children in
Cuba do not smile, and they certainly don't get ice cream, unless they turn
their parents over to the Communist Party for re-education." And Standifer's
letters were always the first ones on the page. They ran maybe 5 or 6, till I
got bored and retired him. </DIV>
