"In his explanatory note to the director of the [Matrosskaya Tishina] detention center's administration, Khodorkovsky claimed that he did not write any articles and did not hand over anything through his lawyers," Deputy Justice Minister Yury Kalinin told Interfax on Tuesday.
Kalinin said that Khodorkovsky's explanations had come as part of an internal inquiry launched following the publication of the "Crisis of Liberalism in Russia" article signed by the former Yukos head.
"Khodorkovsky has denied writing this article but said that he fully agrees with everything written in it," he said.
"The internal investigation is continuing. It cannot be ruled out that certain conclusions will be drawn based on its results," Kalinin said.
Under legislation, all correspondence of arrested people should be examined by a detention center's administration and undergo censorship. The aforementioned article was not examined by the Matrosskaya Tishina administration. Apr 6 2004 1:54PM
