Last Friday, John Burns was on Charlie Rose (hey, I don't have cable and he can score some choice guests). He and a journo from the New Yorker both said, basically, that the officials in Iraq are in denial of what they faced. This was before the al-Sadr uprising, referring only to the Sunnis. Burns emphasized that many Iraqi civilians had been cheering US deaths for months. The main difference last week in Fallujah was the ability to seize the bodies. Apparently, film clips of Black Hawk Down are widely distributed throughout Iraq, and the intent is to emulate the scenes.
