I was talking with my host here at Grinnell last night, who spends a lot of time in Paris. He says antiwar demos there frequently feature "Death to the Jews" as a slogan, and the level of anti-Semitic acts, from window-smashing to taunts on the street, is rising alarmingly. As Judith Butler argued in her really fine piece on anti-Semitism, some of this is blowback from Israel's efforts (and those of Israel's supporters here, like Lawrence Summers) to identify criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism. But it's still awful and shouldn't be indulged by people on the left for a second.
