In a message dated 4/10/2004 12:55:43 AM Eastern Standard Time, galliher at alexia.lis.uiuc.edu writes: What term would you use for a state that privileged one group defined by descent and disadvantaged all others? Israel is not disadvantaging all others. It is protecting people who were historically "disadvantaged" by virtually all others due to an historical event known as the Nazi Holocaust. I will be willing to see Israel give up the Law of Return for Jews if the world gave up slogans like "Death to the Jews." Given the way that Daniel Pearl was murdered, talk of giving back the Law of Return, as advocated by Melanie Kaye Kantrowitz and some others in the Jewish peace movement, is premature.

In Jordan, it is against the law to grant citizenship to a Jew. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion are on sale in hotel lobbies. Remember what happened when the former president of Malaysia made an anti-Semitic speech to OPEC government officials? He got applause instead of criticism.

What would you call "civilized" European (and other) countries refusing asylum to Jews fleeing the Nazis, then retrospectively turning around and demonizing the country that did? I call it hypocrisy and anti-Semitism. I call it a monumental guilty conscience, projection, and obscene bad faith.

And I call it that while criticizing Likud and Sharon and supporting the Geneva Accord..
