[lbo-talk] Bush invaded Iraq because...

Yep, that is most specific reason for the invasion: to place Enduring Bases in the setup for the future intervention into the Arabian peninsula. As well, to place Enduring Bases in Kurdistan for future interventions into Iran should the mullahacracy fall.

And the US would be quite happy to back "anti-moderns" in the game - they have been all along in the Middle East.

As for oil, well, what isn't about oil in the modern world?

Next question: Why has Operation Enduring Bases gone forward under the ideological banner of a Christian-Judeo Crusaderism whose hallmark is a vitriolic racist hatred of Arabs?

It didn't have to be that way, either, any more than there had to be an occupation, rather than a continuation of the cruel war that Clinton/Gore waged against the Iraqi people for eight years, whose enormous human toll was so infamously "worth it". Churchill would have been proud, in either case.

Except everyone has left the incompetent and rapidly aging gerontocracy of Saudi Arabia out of the discussion.

Imagine SA going offline for a year or two due to internal turmoil in, say, 2009.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a base or two in a neighboring country that can rapidly deploy in the service of a faction that isn't virulently anti-US and/or anti-modernity?

I want to know what was in those 28 pages..............and a lot more................
