> "First, it means that based on the information available so far, most Americans recoil from efforts to blame Bush for the attacks. One leading Democratic interest group recently asked a focus group in Florida to respond to a potential television ad accusing Bush of negligence in failing to stop the attacks. The result was volcanic -- against the ad.
> "They were so angry I thought they were going to turn the tables over," said a Democratic operative who watched the session. "It was a very polarizing ad, and it pushed people who were on the fence decidedly away from us.""

I, for one, am glad that the Democrats don't have a clue and will lose this election. This will only hasten the demise of the Democratic Party. Defeating Bush should be a no-brainer given current events, but the Demo have moved so far to the right and are so chicken about their nominee that they won't take any risks. They can't whip up anger about the war, because their candidate backed the war. They can't say much about the economy, because the Republicans can deflect that with ads about Kerry's record. Saw one of these ads last night. The Democrats are saddled with the Walter Mondale of the 21st century. There is nothing about Kerry that will mobilize voters and the ABB movement of mass rejectionism will not be enough to defeat Bush.
If the Democrats had any balls they would run a campaign portraying Bush as an extremist. Extremist on the environment. Extremists in bed with the radical right. An extremist who would lie to Americans about Iraq to benefit his oil buddies.
Moveon is sort of doing this, which has generated much hostility from the Republicans. There is a reason why the Republicans are trying to sabotage Moveon--they understand that Moveon's messages are more likely to appeal to Americans who are sitting on the political fence.
