[lbo-talk] A Calculated Provocation

I think everyone who talks about the question of whether the people who died on 9/11 were "justly executed" is making a lot of assumptions about who these people actually were. Probably some were janitors, etc., others were insanely rich "masters of the universe," and others were all sorts. I didn't bother reading all the little articles about them in the NY Times, and those articles weren't at all informative, since they were basically obituaries, but one would have to do research on that level of detail to say something about it.

OTOH, supposing they were all "little Eichmanns." Still, even Eichmann got some sort of trial; these people were killed en masse out of a clear blue sky. And if you look closely at the statements by bin Laden and the other AQ folks associated with the executioners (yes, I'm assuming, until better evidence turns up, that the AQ people, not Bush, were responsible), their motivations were very different from Western leftists who have cheered at their deaths. And note also that said Western leftists didn't have the balls to fly planes into the WTC; they only sat in their comfortable studies and put their glee into writing afterward.
