I don't know about anyone else but this is one guy whose name sends a shiver up and down my spine. His name is synonymous with the latter stages of the Vietnam war, and as this article cites, he has a deep pedigree in the darker days of Central America.
But, lest I be accused of paranoia, allow me to let the distinguished gentleman hoist himself on his own petard. From 'Sideshow', William Shawcross' book on the war in Cambodia;
'John Negroponte, who, as one of Kissinger's Indochina specialists, was actively involved in the war and the peace talk, says 'I never knew very much about Cambodia. I don't think anyone did. I am a Vietnam expert, and I always thought of Cambodia as just an adjunct to the whole damn thing (hence, a 'sideshow' -PC). I knew what I had to know, but I didn't get involved in the gory details'.
He should feel right at home.
