By a 50 -- 44 percent margin, New York City residents support the war in Iraq, but women oppose the war 51 -- 42 percent while men back the war 59 -- 36 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
A March 25 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University showed opposition to the war at 59 -- 37 percent in the days before the war began, dropping to a 49 -- 47 percent split by day five of the hostilities.
In this latest survey, black New Yorkers oppose the war 54 -- 40 percent. Whites support the war 63 -- 33 percent and Hispanics support it 49 -- 43 percent.
Jewish New Yorkers support the war 59 -- 35 percent.
"New York City men really are from Mars, and our women are from Venus," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
