I grew up in the 1970s, and had nightmares during the early 1980s about the fifteen-minute-siren-to-Apocalypse. That's probably a significant mass-cultural shift, i.e. a stream of just-in-time images versus a succession of neo-national Events.

Why not? Finland seems to be doing just fine, despite that short growing season. France would just raise lots of reindeer. And the NHL would boom.
