Gay Marriage is extemely popular in Massachusetts. Any amendment to ban Gay Marriage or Civil Union polls around 16-20%. That is it. AntiQueer activists are vocal in Massachusetts but they are a minority (and a lot were shipped in from other states--the main anti-Gay lobbyist was from Georgia).

Also, I should note Freedom to Marry coalition was and is extremely active in Massachusetts. Human Rights Campaign goes door to door here. It is true that original plaintiffs decided (correctly) that the courts were the best way to get Gay Marriage in Massachusetts, but that is because two extremely powerful individuals would have been nearly impossible to beat (the Democratic speaker and the Republican governor). There were many impressive and passionate speeches (nostly by Dems but not all) given in the state house on behalf of gay marriage once the court decision was made.

Now that there exists Gay Marriage in Massachusetts it is "conservative" to support it!
