Several years ago, at a bookstore talk in New York, Slavoj Zizek was confronted with the charge that he is Eurocentric. Rather than deny the charge, he said that during the period of apartheid, the ANC always cited enlightenment notions of equality, and it was Buthelezi ("in the pay of the CIA") who countered with an appeal to "African values."
