Most of what has been coming out of Russia (I mean big-grossing movies) have been action films, like War (set in Chechnya -- actually worth seeing), Brother 1 and 2 and Anti-Killer 1 and 2 (AK has a body count that would make Steven Segal jealous). I want to see Night Watch just 'cause it has rock star Ilya Lagutenko playing a vampire. For serious fare I really recommend Country of the Deaf. I liked Bozvrashcheniya (Return), which came out last year I think. Russian Ark I haven't seen but it has gotten great reviews -- and was all shot in one take!!!!
Moscow has a system whereby only people with official registration are allowed to live in the city. In Night Watch, I believe, part of the plot turns around efforts to expel unregistered provincial vampires from the capital. Art imitates life!
