It's a pretty stupid metaphor.

Why analogize your protest to that of theocratic fascists? Why not the spirit of Seattle? Peoples Park? The Paris Commune? Granny D? Anything but Najaf!

When I listened to her (on DN) I heard her describe '... bringing Najaf to NY' as a metaphor for bringing a spirit of resistance to NY (and to the US by extension). I didn't hear her suggest adopting their cultural norms.
