Do you mean the SAT? As you might expect, SAT is strongly correlated with IQ score (they both measure the same kind of academic smarts). For both men and women, SAT (like IQ) is a reasonable predictor of academic achievement. It's not a perfect predictor, so that's why small gender differences in the math section of the SAT (say) do not result in a substantial gender difference in college outcomes. (No speculation other than acknowledgement of error variance is necessary here!)
