Former Eugene officer sentenced to 94 years in prison TOOLS

EUGENE, Ore. - A former Eugene police officer convicted of dozens of crimes against women was sentenced to 94 years in prison Tuesday.
During 41-year-old Roger Eugene Magana's four week trial, 13 women testified that he raped, assaulted or harassed them while he was a police officer. Jurors deliberated for two days before finding him guilty on 42 counts of various crimes against women.
A number of the women took the stand Tuesday in the Lane County Courthouse, detailing the destruction he'd brought to their lives.
During the statements, Magana, who was shackled around his waist, stared straight ahead, not looking any of the women in the eye.
After the last of women had finished, Magana then gave a lengthy statement, addressing the women by name and refusing to admit any guilt. As a police officer, he said, he'd been trying to help the women with their drug problems, and he now felt betrayed by them.
But Judge Karsten Rasmussen rejected Magana's statement, calling him, "a pathological liar. You're a petty tyrant who preys on vulnerable women, either because of age or drug use. Today your tyranny is over. I hope by this sentence justice is delivered."
According to reports by KLCC radio in Eugene, family members in the courtroom supported Magana, with his mother asking, "Judge, may I have my son before you take him away?", and his aunt yelling out, "We love you, Roger."
The station reported that someone else yelled back, "You love a rapist", causing a brief scuffle between family members and some of the women who had testified against him.
