I've witnessed Mr. Flew speak quite a few years ago, and I remember quite clearly that he was a proud Libertarian who somehow, no matter what the topic would slip in some stupid barbs attacking Old Man Marx....

Ironically, Flew was the one who convinced me to latch on to Marx, when I was but a young(er) boy of 18, about 10 years ago, working in the mail room of the Skeptical Inquirer and Free Inquiry. When I had free time, I would read through the old archives from the early 80s of FI mag, and there were the ongoing debates between Libertarians and Socialists (Flew vs Sid Hook to be exact) inside, and this was what somehow pushed me to the left....

Famous Atheist Now Believes in God http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=315976 A British philosophy professor who has been a leading champion of atheism for more than a half-century has changed his mind. He now believes in God more or less based on scientific evidence, and says so on a video released Thursday.

At age 81, after decades of insisting belief is a mistake, Antony Flew has concluded that some sort of intelligence or first cause must have created the universe. A super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature, Flew said in a telephone interview from England
