I posted an article with the comment that I thought it was humourous. I objected to Miles' criticisms the same way I would have objected to someone criticizing a movie they hadn't seen. The study may be bullshit. But there was no way to determine that from the article I posted.

No, but you'll probably keep believing in the dilletante notion that truth can be found in a university statistics class or an academic text. Truth is made every nanosecond in experienced reality. It is not to be found in any book, including the Bible.
People make and re-make truth during the course of their everyday lives. If we can take this study and ally it with others and create the truth that queerness is natural and with that truth create justice for queers -- good for us.
Our enemies take their created truths and oppress us. How do leftists respond? They hold seminars, publish incoherent texts, and fret over nuance. It is like The Godfather. We are at war and academics are the Tom Hagens of the left. While Tom was many good things, the one thing he was not was a wartime consigliere.
I am sure that you, Miles and all the other academics on the list are not homophobic, but the academic approach is not very useful in the real world and allows homophobia to triumph. The pursuit/creation of academic truth(s) is a leisure class activity, like trying to figure out how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. People should be allowed to follow such pursuits as far as they wish and as long as they like. As you once said, (if I am incorrect my apologies), identity politics was a creation of the academic class for the working class. Well in the words of Daffy Duck: "Thanks for the sour persimmons, cousin."
The left needs to create strategic/useful truths with which it can do battle.
