Qualcomm opens lab in Mumbai

Press Trust of India Mumbai, December 15

Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology provider Qualcomm Inc has opened BREW developer lab in Mumbai that would provide Indian application developers access to latest BREW-enabled handsets, software and testing tools.

The new lab, one of the nine BREW-developer labs globally, would also provide developers access to hands on technical support from the company, Qualcomm India and SAARC president Kanwalinder Singh told reporters on Wednesday.

The lab is situated at Bandra-Kurla complex and is equipped with the latest tools and next generation handsets, he said, adding around 10-15 people from Qualcomm would provide technical support.

He, however, did not divulge the investments in the lab, but he stated they were in the form of equipment, human resources and technology.

At present, the company has four centres in the country, with a corporate centre each in Delhi and Mumbai, a design centre in Hyderabad and development centre in Bangalore, he said.

Qualcomm has over 200 people working with it in the country, he added.

Talking on the future plans, Singh said that the company is looking at introducing Evolution Data Optimised (EvDO) and location-based services, even as it is focusing on a nation-wide roll out of Push-To-Talk technology.
