I can't emphasize this enough. I have no objection to trying to imagine a socialist future (in the _early_ years of socialism) as long as the people doing the imagining commit themselves to ALSO imagining what kind of capitalist conditions would make the socialist victory possible. It is insane to try to imagine a socialist regime emerging from conditions essentially like the present. Conditions would have to be _much_ _much_ worse or _much_ much_ better before a socialist movement could achieve power. Start your imagining by imagining the capitalism to which that socialist order will be in immediate contrast.
