CC:" Anyone who reads a good deal of erotic material from _before_ the 19th
century and then reads the professional pornography produced in
thousands of volumes in the late 19th century in England, and who still
thinks that some major change didn't happen . . . doesn't even know the
meaning of the word "historical."
Perhaps i have misunderstood - I thought the matter being discussed was whether there was such materials before a certain nodal point. Not whether there was an explosion of it after. I am reading "Q", an interesting novel that got a lot positive reviews, about the anabaptist movements in Germany. It makes the point that printing technology changed the manner of propagandising to the peasantry.
