BRISTOL, R.I. -- A student group at Roger Williams University is offering a new scholarship for which only white students are eligible ... Jason Mattera, 20, who is president of the College Republicans, said the group is parodying minority scholarships at Roger Williams and making a statement.... 

Mattera, who is of Puerto Rican descent, readily acknowledges that he was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Hispanic College Fund. He said he was given the money because of his academic achievement ... 

The group took out a full-page ad in last week's issue of the university's student newspaper to advertise the scholarship.... The ad also publicized the visit on Wednesday of Reginald Jones, a critic of affirmative action.... The topic of Jones's lecture Wednesday evening is "How the civil-rights movement destroyed the black community."

A friend of mine is archiving this article. He suspects that a Jason Mattera will be up for an appointment for the US Court of Appeals in about 10 years or so.
